Irix 15mm

Seen the new Irix 15mm for sale on ebay for Canikon mounts but not Pentax. Here's the response I received from Irix re availability of Pentax mount.

"Hello John,

Irix 15/2.4 with Pentax mount should be available in about one or two weeks.

Best regards,
Tim Graff
Irix Team"

The PK version can already be tested live on photokina.

Just posted this to the Irix 11mm thread, but realized this would be a more appropriation thread to post, so I'm repeating. Apologies for the double post...

I was at Photokina yesterday as well and had an interesting chat with the guys at Irix. I tried the 15/2.4, and was indeed very impressed with it.

Lots of nice touches:
- the focus ring can be locked, e.g. for when you're doing landscape work and want to keep your lens at hyperfocal distance for max DOF without having to refocus all the time.
- next to a DOF scale, the lens shows hyperfocal distance indicators for a number of apertures and a IR focus point.
- the K-mount version appears to be chipped. It registered its 15mm focal length automatically on my K-3II. AFAIK that makes this the first manual focus lens ever not to require manual input of its focal length. No more information than that in the chip the Irix guys told me, but still a nice time saving touch.

Will I buy it? Well, probably no. Though I like very much what this lens can do on APS-C, my Samyang 16/2 has similar FoV and IQ (in the APS-C frame), larger max aperture, and much more practical size. Should I ever move to FF with the K-1 or any of its successors, I think 15mm would be too wide and I would prefer the FoV Samyang 20/1.8, which unfortunately they didn't have a K-mount sample of at the Samyang booth. But for people looking for 15mm FoV on FF, this lens must be one of the best.

That is interesting.

Question for you: Is aperture fully controlled from the camera and are lens usable in modes other than manual like Av, TAv...?

Yes, aperture is fully controlled similar to A-generation Pentax glass.

I didn't explicitly check the mount. Sorry. But I can confirm that camera correctly stopped down the lens in accordance to its settings in Av mode.

Why wouldn't it have an aperture lever? It is not like Irix knew about KAF4 before the K-70 was announced. The Nikon version has an aperture lever:
