Briton Bryony Shaw wins Sailing World Cup gold in Abu Dhabi

Bryony Shaw won gold as British sailors claimed four medals at the inaugural Sailing World Cup Final in Abu Dhabi.

Shaw, an Olympic bronze medallist in 2008,, external led the women's RS:X windsurfing throughout all four days of the event.

Britain also took silver in the women's 470 and bronze in the men's RS:X windsurfing and men's 49er.

"I'm really pleased to have had such a convincing win here - it's been a tough year in that I've kept missing out on the podiums," Shaw said.

"I managed to win Miami back at the beginning of the year and now this being the end of the year, it's nice to be back on top of the podium. Hopefully I can take that momentum into next season."

Sophie Weguelin and Eilidh McIntyre returned to competition for the first time since Weguelin underwent treatment for a deep vein thrombosis to secure 470 silver.

"We've had a good week and getting back in the boat has been great," Weguelin said.

"Getting back into feeling the boat and a little bit of boat handling and building up our communication."

Nick Dempsey, a silver medallist at London 2012, consolidated third place on the final day for bronze in the men's RS:X, while John Pink and Stuart Bithell moved up from fifth to third in the 49er medal race.

"We were in fifth position with every medal available to us," Bithell said.

"We went out and attacked the race, trying to win it - that's what our game plan was."

British kiteboard racer Olly Bridge won gold in the invitational event held alongside the Olympic Classes.
