Police said the 47-year-old was walking along the road at Straiton Junction when he was struck by a Vauxhall Insignia at about 19:20 on Thursday.

He suffered serious injuries and died while being taken to hospital.

The car involved stopped and remained at the scene. Officers are trying to establish what the man was doing on the carriageway and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The incident happened on the eastbound carriageway. The road was closed for more than four hours while investigations were carried out.
