Two men have appeared in court charged with murder after a man's body was found at a house in Staffordshire.

Anthony Hughes, 44, died from serious head injuries, police said. He was discovered by officers at Wilmot Drive in Newcastle-under-Lyme on Saturday.

Steven Yeomans, 43, from Wilmot Drive, and Andrew Scott, 28, of no fixed address, appeared before magistrates in Newcastle-Under-Lyme on Monday.

They were remanded in custody to appear at Stafford Crown Court on 20 January.

Three other men, aged 56, 57 and 58, have been released on bail pending further inquiries, police said.

A post-mortem examination gave Mr Hughes' cause of death as substantial head and facial injuries, although more tests have yet to be carried out.

Staffordshire Police said they were still carrying out inquires in the area around Wilmot Drive.
