Headlines this week
  • The Google Play Store is having a Cyber Weekend sales event in honor of Black Friday. During this time you can save a bit of money on some stuff including a few Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy games, some music, movies, books, TV shows, and even magazines. Hurry and take advantage before these deals expire.
  • SwiftKey announced a sale for their theme store this week. A select number of theme packs will be 50% off. They also took the time to put together five new theme packs which are also discounted for a limited time.
  • In preparation for The Force Awakens, there will be a new Star Wars VR app coming to Google Cardboard on December 2nd. The app will let people view some stuff in full VR that ties directly into the introduction of the movie. This is something fans definitely won't want to miss.
  • Speaking of Star Wars, if you go to google.com/starwars you can join the dark side or light side. Once you do, a select number of Google's apps will do some fun stuff based on your decision. Some of the apps include Chromecast, Gmail, Google Chrome, Google Calendar, and YouTube.
  • Good news everyone! It seems Futurama will be returning as a mobile game. Based on the description, it appears as though it'll be a puzzle game with a story line written by Dave Grossman, the same guy who did The Wolf Among Us by Telltale Games. It could be fun and we'll tell you more when we find out more.
  • Unfortunately, we do have some bad news this week. EverythingMe Launcher has shut down for good. The popular and very well-done launcher app was unable to properly monetize the experience despite having millions of users and have decided to shut the doors for good.
  • A new rumor has surfaced that says that the Play Store will make its way to China in 2016. It'll be unique in that it won't have any ties to the normal Google Play Store and exist as a standalone experience specifically for Chinese consumers. China has a few app stores already to fill the void, but we imagine the Play Store will be a boon for the Chinese.
  • After a lukewarm reception to their new pricing model, Pushbullet took to a Reddit AMA to answer questions and see how they can make things right. You can find out more by clicking here!
  • In Jonathan Feist's latest Android Customization post, he shows you how to get Chuck Norris facts on your home screen every day!
App Updates this week
  • Square Enix posted a big update to Lara Croft GO this last week. Included is a whole new chapter to the adventure which includes 26 new puzzles at the low, low cost of free.
  • A rather huge update has hit Whatsapp this week. Included in the update are starred messages, rich preview links, bug fixes, performance improvements, and support for Android Marshmallow's Direct Share feature.
  • Google released an update for the Google Handwriting Input app that has added Arabic, Urdu, Persian, Hebrew, and Burmese support.
  • Samsung Pay announced an update this week that allows Chase Bank cards to be used with the service.
  • Opera released an update to their browser this week that lets users stream music with 50% less data. Opera has been working on their compression system to save data for a while and this could be really useful for those on limited data plans.
