A Closer Look at Yahoo Mail’s New Features

by Dave McDowell, Senior Director, Yahoo Mail and Lee Parry, Senior Director, Yahoo Mail, Mobile

Today, we rolled out a new look for Yahoo Mail. Our hope is that the new look makes your daily communication habits a little more inspiring and that it will be easier than ever to manage your email.

On smartphones and tablets, many of you are familiar with swiping left or right to reveal quick actions.

In Web mail, we’ve added quick actions when you hover or select a message, including a quick search feature, which comes in really handy when you want to see all the messages from a sender.

If you want to star a message that’s important or delete a message, you can also take care of that with a quick action.

Taking a cue from the Yahoo Weather app, you can give your inbox a beautiful new photo backdrop by visiting the ‘View’ menu or by hitting ‘Esc’ to view the photos full screen.

And, when you select a theme on one device, it will reflected on all your devices.

If you’ve ever been on an email conversation between a group of people, you know how many messages can be generated in just a few minutes. Having the context of the full conversation intact is important, so we group related messages together as well to give you a quick way to add to the conversation.

We’ve also made some features that were previously only available to Mail Plus users free for everyone. Here’s what you get:

Disposable Addresses - Create a disposable email address when you don’t want to give out your primary address.

Filters - Use up to 200 filters to automatically sort incoming messages. That’s twice as many filters than you had before and it’s a great way to get a handle on your inbox.

Mail Forwarding - Automatically forward your email to another email account, even another Yahoo Mail address.

Offline Access with POP - You can download your Yahoo Mail messages using a desktop email application, such as Outlook, and then access them offline.

Existing Mail Plus customers may continue to use Mail Plus at the same price. New users looking for an ad free experience should click here to learn more about Ad Free Mail.
