However, experts have warned that this funding will only be effective if broader climate risks are addressed. Rising sea temperatures, caused by climate change, are a major threat to coral reefs. The ICRI aims to secure the future of 125,000 square kilometers of coral reefs and double the areas under protection by the end of the decade.
