ATL’s K. Camp catches up with VIBE.com to discuss his upcoming album, the “new Atlanta,” and his future plans. — Tanay Hudson
VIBE: How is the process of making the album going?
K. Camp: We got about 40 percent of the album done.
Any features so far?
Ya’ll just gonna have to hear it when it drops. We’re in the creative process we’re not giving no scoop out.
Who has been your favorite to work with?
Nipsey Hussle, Yo Gotti to name a few. Big Sean too.
Who do you look forward to getting in the studio with?
3 stacks, Drake, Wayne.
Lil Wayne was supposed to be “Money Baby.” What happened with that?
I thought it was going down too but hey.
There has been a resurgence of music coming out of Atlanta as of late. How do you make yourself stand out?
I just do me. I don’t follow the trends. I got my own lane and I make whatever makes me feel good so I can tell my story.
Now I see you went to West Georgia State University. What was your major?
I didn’t have a major. I wasn’t in school long enough to have a major. I dropped out after two months. It wasn’t for me.
I saw on your Instagram that you were in the studio with DJ Mustard. How was that?
I met with Mustard when I was in LA. We never went in before so I might use what we did for the new project I’m putting out. It’s something for the streets. I just started working on a mixtape. We weren’t even gonna drop a tape but we met with the label and everyone agreed that I should put something out before the album.
What was it like working with Mustard?
Mustard’s dope. Good vibes.
Who are you looking to get on the mixtape?
I might reach out to some heavyweights. Really I want it to be me like how it was on In Due Time. But I may reach out to some of my rapper friends.
What would the fans be surprised to know about you?
I don’t know. I’m cool as hell but they probably know that already. I’m a businessman. I don’t play no games.
What do you have coming up next?
I have a couple sings that I have written for a couple artists that should be coming out soon. I wrote a song for Rihanna. It’s some club shit. I ain’t met her yet. I gave her two songs.
