'Eyesore' Blackpool flats demolished in controlled explosions

Three tower blocks once described as "festering" and "notorious" have been demolished in controlled explosions.

Standing since the 1960s and 70s, Blackpool's Elizabeth Court, Churchill Court and Walter Robinson Court were the last of the Lancashire seaside town's high-rise flats.

They became unpopular with many people, with some residents saying they created a "stigma" in the neighbourhood.

Their demolition will make way for the construction of about 100 homes by spring 2018, as part of a wider £22m transformation of the Queens Park estate.
