Peach flower festival opens in Beijing suburb

The 17th International Peach Flower and Music Festival started in Pinggu, Beijing on Monday.

The festival, which is organized around the theme of "Leisure in Pinggu, Capital of Peach Flowers," will also host the third international snack culture festival, an international photography contest, a matchmaking activity, and lots of other entertainment, music and food events.

Internationally famed Chinese star pianist Lang Lang performed at the opening ceremony of the festival and was appointed by the organizers as an "Image Ambassador of Beijing Tourism." Beijing's Pinggu District also officially announced that it would bid for the World Leisure Congress 2020.

Pinggu District government representatives said the State Council has given them the green light for the project, and the district's bid and efforts have been recognized by the World Leisure Organization. Pinggu will explore this opportunity to further improve and develop its local tourism and leisure industry.

The 17th International Peach Flower and Music Festival will be held from April 6 to May 6, which is the best season of the year to enjoy peach blossoms. The Music Valley International Music Festival Beijing 2015, headlined by 40 top Chinese acts such as Sun Nan, Tan Weiwei, The Black Panther and Hanggai Band, will also be held in Pinggu from May 1 to 3.
