Natalie Cole's "Take a Look" is neither a sharp departure nor a close copy of her eight-million-selling 1991 album Unforgettable. She once again sings her daddy's songs, but this time she only does three of them, all obscure non-hits known only to the most fanatic Nat "King" Cole fans. The other 15 songs pay tribute to a wider circle of influences--Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Nancy Wilson, Julie London and Lambert, Hendricks & Ross. The most welcome change is the new confidence the younger Cole now brings to the standard repertoire. Her voice has always had the satiny ease that makes listeners feel comfortable, but on this new album Cole reclaims some of the spunk and playfulness of her R&B hits. --Geoffrey Himes

"I Wish You Love" この曲だけのために購入したといっても過言ではありません。彼女に関する様々な先入観はまったくなかったため純粋にアーティストとして聞いてみてもやっぱり惹かれます。JBLのスピーカーで聞いてみたいなぁ。

確かに、それまでポップ・シンガーとして「そこそこ」の活躍ぶりで
あった彼女にとって、父、ナット・コールに捧げた " Unforgettable " がブレイクの切っ掛け（８００万枚！）となったのは紛れもない事実で。

VTR映像と音声による「亡き父との競演」という、お涙頂戴すれすれの演出に対する、何となしの反感も加わってでしょうか。
人気の陰で「親の七光り」「えせジャズシンガー」等々の誹謗・中傷がつきまといがちな彼女ですが。。。ええい、何を言うか！

声量・リズム感・テクニック・表現力、その総合点と高次のバランス感において、80年代以降〜現在まで、彼女ほどの実力を持った歌手が
果たしてどれだけいるでしょうか？

61年、45歳でこの世を去った、ナット " King " コールは、アメリカのポピュラー音楽史上、屈指の（おそらくは最高の）シンガーでした。

歌がうまくなって来た状態を記録したアルバム。ビッグバンドをバックにつけてせつせつと歌う。このアルバムが彼女のピークとなるしろもの。他がちとさえないんで。これをおさえとくとよい。元からジャズプロパーな人物ではないんで、そのへんは勘弁だね。奇跡的にプロダクションもうまくったアルバム。１０点中８点

ナタリーの父親は、「モナリザ・・モナリザ・・」の「ナットキングコール」でしたか？
前作品、「アンフォーゲッタブル」よりも、アップテンポ。
このアルバムを聴くのだったら、スピーカーは「ＪＢＬ」なんかで、アメリカンチック、ちょっとノスタルジックに決めてみてはどうでしょう？
ジャージーなナタリーのボーカルが、あなたをアメリカンドリームに誘います。

I purchased this cd because I was really excited by NC's rendition of "I wish you love". As it turned out, the entire cd , all eighteen tracks, are very enjoyable, whether she is backed by strings or by a big band. These performances are absolutely exquisite. Highly recommended.

Apres un incursion dans la pop et la soul, Natalie cole rendait hommage a son illustre pere Nat"king" Cole en reprenant son repertoire dans le superbe "unforgetable, with love", et enregistrait en suivant "take a look", dans la meme lignée.
Un trés bel album de standards, ou Natalie cole rend justice à son heritage musical, interpretations soignées et classes, un trés bel album de jazz que je recomande vivement.

Natalie Cole is one of the finest singers of her generation. During the late-1970s, her run of albums for Capitol with Marvin Yancy (her then husband) and Chuck Jackson producing quite rightly put her at the very top of the US pop and R and B charts. She also earned a reputation as a stellar live act. Sadly, personal issues and drug abuse made much of the 1980s a patchy era for Cole, but in the 1990s she came back strong and re-established herself at the top of the tree - this time embracing her gift for jazz, big band and the Great American Songbook. Her first foray into this, Unforgettable With Love, was a tribute to her father and a huge multi-platinum success. Buoyed by this, Natalie produced this wonderful follow-up. Choosing not to repeat the formula, Natalie widened the range of material to cover other classic tunes - try her versions of Cry Me A River, Crazy He Calls Me and As Time Goes By, all of which are gorgeous. When she does cover Nat, she picks some great uptempo numbers and has fun - try Let There Be Love and Calypso Blues. Much of the rest of the material is more jazz than before, and more up-tempo - to great effect. Her versions of I'm Beginning To See The Light, Swingin' Shepherd Blues, It's Sand,man and Too Close For Comfort are simply superb, the vocals on the latter, in particular, really letting rip at the end. To cap it all, she even does a great swinging version of Lovers, her own song first featured on her late-1970s Thankful album. A real treat and great in anyone's collection.
