聞いていた頃はレコードだった。
このジャケットのCDをAmazonで見つけられるとは思ってもいなかった…やはり耳慣れた曲は最高です！

懐かしい！クインシージョーンズの秘蔵っ子として当時紹介され貸しレコードを借りテープに録音しずーっと聴いてました。このアルバムは大のお気に入りです。ただこの後のアルバムが今一つ。。

'Party Animal' is a good song to dance to and the vocals by James Ingram and his background singers were very good; 'Yah Mo B There' is my all-time favorite song about Jesus Christ; outstanding vocals by both James and 'Blue-Eyed Soul' singer Michael McDonald and I was extremely overjoyed when the song won the 1984 'GRAMMY' for 'Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal'! Fantastic lyrics, great beats and I can definitely relate to the lyrics in the song! 'She Loves Me' ('The Best That I Can Be') is a beautiful love song with great vocals by James and his background singers; I loved the lyrics and nice melody; 'Try Your Love Again' is a good song to dance to and I loved the vocals by James, the beats as well as the lyrics that I can definitely relate to; 'Whatever We Imagine' is a lovely song and the vocals by James were fantastic as well as the melody; 'One More Rhythm' is a good song with good vocals by James and good melody (good song to dance to); 'There's No Easy Way' is a nice love song with nice vocals by James and nice melody; 'It's Your Night' is a good song with good vocals by James and his background singers, good beats and the melody sounds like the song 'Who Do You Love?' 'How Do You Keep The Music Playing?' (Theme from 'Best Friends') (with Patti Austin) is a lovely song with nice vocals by James and Patti as well as a nice melody; 'Yah Mo B There' (Jellybean Remix, Single Edit) (with Michael McDonald) is a bonus track and the remix of the song is good with good vocals by James and Michael as well as good beats. REST IN POWER to the following singers and songwriters: Mr. James Edward Ingram (February 16, 1952-January 29, 2019); Mr. Luther Rozoni Vandross (April 20, 1951-July 1, 2005); and Mr. Rodney Lynn 'Rod' Temperton (October 9, 1949-September 25, 2016): 'You all may be gone but you will never, ever be, forgotten.'

Cet album a été un carton total pour James Ingram, chanteur à la voix magnifique, à l'aise dans tous les registres et c'est son 1er album personnel après avoir connu un énorme succès en 1981 avec Baby, come to me, son duo avec Patti Austin (sur son excellent album Every home should have one). On retrouve cette dernière dans le joli duo final, histoire de renvoyer la politesse, How do you keep the music playing? Il faut dire que l'équipe qui entoure Ingram fait rêver: Quincy Jones à la production (il a le don pour faire sonner les artistes et les chansons comme peu savent le faire, un vrai "sorcier du son"!). Quant aux musiciens, il s'agit de la crème des musiciens californiens de ces années-là, on les retrouve sur les meilleurs albums de cette période: Larry Carlton (guitare), Abraham Laboriel et Nathan East à la basse, Paulinho Da Costa aux percussions, Ernie Watts au sax, David Foster, Steve Porcaro et même Jimmy Smith à l'orgue! Ca n'est qu'un échantillon!!! Le résultat est somptueux, à commencer par le tube le plus célèbre de l'album, le duo irrésistible avec l'immense Michael McDonald, Yah Mo B There (qui leur vaudra un Grammy en 1984) mais le reste de l'album est excellent, dans tous les styles pop-rock-rhythm'n'blues-soul-funk...Les ballades sont superbes (There's no easy way, Whatever we imagine...) et les morceaux les plus rythmés vous emportent tout de suite, vous mettent des fourmis dans les jambes, dont le Party Animal du début. Bref, un incontournable des années 80, qui n'a pas du tout vieilli, et ça, on ne peut pas le dire de tous les albums de cette époque, ça sonne encore d'enfer. En bonus, un remix de Yah Mo B there qui n'apporte pas grand-chose à cette collection. Même si James Ingram a sorti 4 autres albums sous son nom dans sa carrière, celui-ci reste le meilleur et de loin. Il nous a quitté en 2019 mais sa voix et ses mélodies sont toujours présentes (c'est lui qui a écrit P.Y.T pour le Thriller de Michael Jackson en 1982!).

Known this a long, long time - from 1985. There are 2 tracks I particularly love and remember - Try your love again is one of them (lyrics anyway as I haven't got the CD case in front of me) the other is Whatever we imagine. Both remind me of how great the 80s were for this type of music - I was in my 20s and the sort of jazz-funk and soul that we had then was, in my view - pretty much the best. My spirits always lift to hear those old songs. The years just melt away.

Now I could go on and on about how wonderful and brilliant this album truly is and how extremely talented and underrated a singer that James Ingram is, but I won't bore you or take up too much of your time.

With Mr. Quincy Jones producing this album and molding it into a sweet masterpiece of addictive soul and pop music, how can James Ingram's first album not be good? Which it totally is, by the way!..Lol...

Man, I really do love James Ingram's husky and syrupy voice and even though it's the endless love songs and orchestral ballads that have given James Ingram his modicum of fame, I personally like and prefer James Ingram singing up-tempo songs that you can dance to. Off this album, I especially like TRY YOUR LOVE AGAIN, ONE MORE RHYTHM, and even though it's a bit of a dated 1980's slang reference; PARTY ANIMAL!

Of course, I absolutely love the YAH MO BE THERE song! (A very clever way to say and use God's name and to get people to actually listen to the song without people being upset or offended by it! At least I thought it was when I fist heard it back in Jr. High school back in the '80's!)..And, of course, the title track of the album, IT'S YOUR NIGHT! At first listen, I wasn't really feeling this song but after listening to it twice, brother,I'm hooked!

When this album first came out I was still a little kid. I heard the YAH MO B THERE song and loved it but never bought the album. Oh, I totally admit it. I slept on James Ingram's amazing music and got into other stuff as young silly kids do.Namely BBQ potato chips, video games,comic books, and grape flavored NOW & LATER'S candies. ..Lol....

However, fast forward 20 years later and to the sad and awful current decline of good continuous soulful music for the ears to enjoy?.. Mr. James Ingram, your cool albums have got my full attention now and my hard earned money!...Lol...
