A lovely paperback edition of Pope's most important works. "An Essay on Man..." is my favorite. Some prose writing is included and it's amazingly 'fresh' and clear and not antiquated in terms of vocabulary or style.

I have recently decided to awaken my interest in Pope, having studied his works at school but not read much since [50 years ago]. Now I am 'retired' I have taken on activities that I did not have so much time for when I was working.
The edition I had all those years ago was the little Oxford volume with an intro and notes by Dyson so I acquired a copy of this which is still available.
However I want a fuller edition now so went for the larger Oxford paperback, which turned out to be a bit hard to manage - clocking in at c770 pages and then I hit on this wonderful Penguin. I am very impressed with this edition. It does not have the introduction that the Oxford has - but it has a superb selection, with The Dunciad, Essay on
Criticism and Essay On Man in full, which is not the case in the little Oxford edition. The Rape of the Lock and Eloisa to Abelard are there along with all 4 'Moral Essays', Epistle to Arbuthnot, a good selection of Horace imitations and a handful of choice letters -to the Blount sisters and Swift as well as the Prefaces to the Iliad and Shakespeare.
The notes are excellent - 150 pages of them. Altogether a highly recommended edition and the one I will rely on from now on. The print is good and the text set well towards the centre of the page.

The (Penguin) volume has 522 pages in total, not 960 as given in the description.
In comparison to Pope, The Major Works by Oxford, this has about a couple hundred pages less. However, the type and layout is far clearer.
(So, which to choose is a matter of preference)
