Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” Becomes First Rap Song To Hit #1 In 2015

THE TAYLOR GANG LEADER OVERTAKES MARK RONSON & BRUNO MARS FOR THE TOP SPOT

(AllHipHop News) Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ 14 week run atop the Billboard Hot 100 has come to end thanks to Wiz Khalifa. The Taylor Gang leader’s “See You Again” featuring Charlie Puth takes over the number one spot from “Uptown Funk,” and the single becomes the highest charting rap song of 2015 so far.

“See You Again” is included on the soundtrack to the hit movie Furious 7. With the film’s album sitting at the pinnacle of the Billboard 200 chart, this is the first time in 12 years that a soundtrack has the #1 single and #1 album in the country at the same time.

The last motion picture to achieve that accomplishment was 8 Mile in 2003. Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” controlled the top spot on the Hot 100 for 12 weeks in ’02 and ’03.

Wiz has gained his second Hot 100 number one single with “See You Again.” The Pittsburgh native’s “Black and Yellow” off Rolling Papers climbed to number one in 2011. He also previously reached the top 10 with “No Sleep” and “Young, Wild & Free.”

Eminem (“The Monster”), Juicy J (“Dark Horse”), Pharrell Williams (“Happy”), and Iggy Azalea (“Fancy”) each had a number one single on the Hot 100 in 2014.

Kanye West’s “FourFiveSeconds” with Rihanna and Paul McCartney held the previous high for a rapper in 2015 when the song hit number 4 in February. Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen” is currently at number four as well.
