No video game is better suited to late-night group smack-downs fueled by Red Bull, Cheetos, and—for those of age—shots than Mario Kart, and the eighth iteration is coming soon. Setting aside the way saying “Mario Kart 8” out loud gives us a sinking, “we’re old” feeling, we’re nonetheless eagerly looking forward to the new game, which might just be the most intense racing game extant. Whetting our appetite, Nintendo released some preliminary game specs, as well as an awesome trailer.

The big news? Players can now drive upside-down and across walls, there are some new weapons, and a few new tracks. Oh, and high definition is now part of the experience. The game goes on sale exclusively on the Nintendo Wii U platform May 30, so start working up your “my controller broke!” and “you’re cheating!” excuses now. You want them to sound believable, right?
