Put a Tesla Model S P85D's 188 hp front and 470 hp rear motors on a 4-wheel dyno, and this is what happens. There's so much torque on hand (864 lb-ft), available from so low-down, that wheel-slip on the rollers is really hard to avoid. Wheelspin cuts power, so it's a problem.
It takes these guys at Horsepower Logic's dyno facilities in Florida a couple times to get it rolling correctly on the dyno. The company did find that peak torque is only available for a short period of time before dropping off precipitously toward a minimum of about 400 lb-ft as engine speed increases. You can read about their dyno results and view the chart here.
The massive, easily-accessible torque provided by those massive electric motors means the Model S P85D can keep up with exotica in a race from a standstill. This video, with a P85D facing off against a Lamborghini Aventador in what seems to be a street race on a public road, shows what's possible. It should go without saying that street racing is dangerous, illegal, and stupid … but that's never stopped anyone from uploading a YouTube video before, and it won't stop them in the future.
