Matt Damon on Saturday called for Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder’s resignation amid mounting criticism over Flint’s drinking water crisis.
The Martian actor, who co-founded a water advocacy nonprofit called Water.org, said Snyder should step down, while he discussed his organization’s latest initiative at the Sundance Film Festival. “At the very least he should resign. At the very least,” Damon told The Daily Beast. “Listen, everybody’s entitled to a fair trial in the United States of America, but that man should get one. And soon. That’s just my personal opinion.”

Flint’s water became contaminated with too much lead when the city switched its water source in 2014 as a cost-cutting measure. Snyder has publicly apologized for the public health crisis but has rejected calls for him to leave office, including those from Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and filmmaker Michael Moore.
