It's electrifying! Photographer captures incredible moment popular tourist town in Spain is struck by a powerful bolt of lightning
This stunning image shows the moment the Spanish coastal city of San Sebastián was struck by a powerful bolt of lightning on Sunday.
The bolt struck the city's buildings and lit up the sky above the popular tourist town as it was hit by a late summer thunderstorm.
In another image, a photographer captured the moment lightning streaked across the sky behind a giant crane.
The city in Spain’s Basque region is no stranger to severe weather. Early this year, it was hit by heavy storms with waves as high as 10 metres crashing against the sea-front promenade along La Concha Beach.
One person was reported to have been swept away by the waves, which damaged many of the bridges that cross the Urumea River.
The city is frequently lashed by the Canbrian Sea and the local tourist board provides visitors with tips on where to go wave-watching on the Gipuzkoa coast.
Autumn is the best time for spring tides and the most photographed spots include Paseo Nuevo and the Peine de Viento (Wind Comb), where the sea frequently floods an underwater tunnel, sending jets of water up through holes in the ground.
