Power lawyers Mark Geragos and Brian Kabateck buy Curve

Celebrity lawyers Mark Geragos and Brian Kabateck have bought The Curve Hotel and Resort in Palm Springs.

The legal duo plan to "extensively renovate and re-brand the hotel for a grand opening in December 2015," according to a news release.

"With the help of a talented design team and experienced new operator, we intend to redefine the lodging market in Palm Springs," Kabateck said in a statement.

Geragos echoed those sentiments.

"Our new concept will embrace the raw power of the desert and the celebrated Hollywood history of the valley," Geragos added in the statement.

Geragos has represented some of the top names in Hollywood, including actress Winona Ryder, pop star Michael Jackson, entertainer and designer Nicole Richie, singer Chris Brown as well as hip hop stars Nathaniel "Nate Dogg" Hale and Sean "Diddy" Combs. (aka Puff Daddy).

Geragos cemented his national reputation as a trial lawyer with back-to-back state and federal court jury trial acquittals for renowned Whitewater figure Susan McDougal.

Kabateck is a consumer rights attorney who has brought actions against Fortune 500 companies including Google, Travelers and Eli Lilly.

The Curve is one of many real estate ventures the business partners have taken on together over the past decade.

Geragos and Kabateck co-own the historic Engine Company No. 28 building in downtown Los Angeles, where they run separate law firms. They also co-own the Engine Co. No. 28 restaurant, which has locations in both downtown and at the Los Angeles International Airport.

Although the two attorneys own other investment properties together in Southern California, The Curve is the first hotel property Kabateck and Geragos have purchased together.

The Curve — a 155-room hotel on East Palm Canyon Drive, with rates as low as $56 a night — was re-modeled and re-branded two years ago. It transitioned from a Travelodge persona and began marketing itself to a more chic, hip crowd, much like its neighbors Ace Hotel Palm Springs or the Saguaro Palm Springs.
