India's tense relationship with NGOs

This week India cancelled the registration of nearly 9,000 foreign-funded non-governmental organisations (NGOs) - saying that they didn't comply with the country's tax laws.

It is the latest crackdown in the past few months. Greenpeace India had its bank accounts frozen with the government accusing it of working against the country's economic interests, and the funding of Ford Foundation is also under scrutiny.
