Great live document of the hardest touring band in the Rock business. I must have seen these guys at least 3 times already here in NJ at the time of this live broadcast. Even got in for free at 1 show just for helping the band bring in their equipment. Me and my converted friends thought these guys were the New Hope for rock n roll in 1978, since punk had already blown itself up. It was so perfect it was like they planned it that way. Maybe that's why this punk chick I knew hated them so much. Jeez were these guys incredible back then, and the strangest thing is they are still making first rate music today. Cheap Trick are the true heirs to The Beatles monarchy, and still a large part of the population don't even know! They truly deserve induction into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame this year.

I've bought this one, as it wasn't too expensive and to keep the collection up. I have the same full 74 minute concert from the net anyway on mp3's.

It's a good FM broadcast with a setlist not far from the Budokan shows. The CD is boosted to be much louder than the mp3's. Tom's bass is generally quite low in the mix. Robin makes a hilarious vocal mistake by starting On top of the world slightly early. It makes me think the band wouldn't ever have sanctioned this release. There is a very slight hint of audio dropout in some places, especially between a couple of the tracks. It is however a cracking, spirited performance from the band. The sleeve notes are fairly generic. and only two photos are used. One is the band photo on the front cover and the other is a side shot of Rick with a Hamer Explorer.
The label is Smokin' Records and the catalogue number is SMCD927. Smokin' Records info can be found at [...] There is nothing in the packaging to suggest royalties have been paid on this CD. There are a whole host of these releases on Amazon, including Rush, Journey and Tom Petty. I can see someone going after them. If you're a completist, I'd get it while you can, as I can see a strongly worded letter heading their way.
