Two motorcyclists die in separate crashes on NI roads

A 44-year-old motorcyclist has died in a crash in County Londonderry.

He is the second motorcyclist to have been killed on Northern Ireland's roads over the weekend.

He died at Deerpark Road, Bellaghy, on Saturday evening at about 20:30 BST. No other vehicle was involved. His name has not been released.

Earlier on Saturday, 49-year-old man Damien Crawley died at Loughareema Road, Cushendun, County Antrim.

He was killed after his motorcycle was in collision with a 4x4 vehicle at about 10:35 BST.

SDLP MLA for Mid-Ulster Patsy McGlone said he was "deeply saddened" by news of the weekend deaths.

"This latest accident reminds us all of the dangers the roads pose to motorists and motorcyclists alike," he said.

"Every road death is one too many. We must exercise caution when using the roads in order to reduce tragic accidents of this nature."

Twenty-six people have died on Northern Ireland's roads since January. Five of them were motorcyclists.

Police have appealed for witnesses.
