El Vy (pronounced like a plural of Elvis; rhymes with ‘hell pie’) is the musical collaboration between Matt Berninger, vocalist and lyricist of The National, and Brent Knopf, the Portland musician and producer best known for his work in Menomena and his more recent band, Ramona Falls. Their 2015 debut album Return To The Moon is a project Berninger and Knopf have been thinking about for years. Their friendship spans nearly a decade, starting back when the National and Menomena played small half-empty clubs along America’s West Coast. Feeling an immediate musical kinship, the pair kept in touch, Brent sending Matt occasional rough sketches of music and Matt responding with melodies and lyrics. Finally, in the winter and spring of 2014-15, they actually got together to make an album.

I have been a Fan of The National since there first Album. And had collected there Albums ever since. This EL VY Album with the lead singer of The National is just as good. Great songwriting and great production.
If you like The National then this should be in your collection.

Wonderful album that I am able to listen to the whole way through without skipping! I don't have an auxiliary input or Bluetooth in my car so good CDs are very important for my driving enjoyment. I discovered these guys when the song 'return to the moon' showed up on my Pandora a few weeks ago. So new fan here. Fabulous music!!

I bought it on the strength of the single, Return to the Moon. I was not disappointed. Actually, the single is the weakest song of the album. I love the Cohen-like sounding Matt and the ever changing music. You go through all the emotions on this album. Best record I have purchased since the Nationals Trouble will find me.
