Tom Gonser is stepping down as chief strategy officer with Docusign, the electronic signature company he founded in 2003, Fortune has learned. He is expected to maintain his seat on the company’s board of directors.

“This is really just Tom deciding to step back from the day-to-day, but he will continue to be a active director, advisor and evangelist for us,” says Docusign spokesman Gregor Perotto.

Also resigning is Ken Moyle, a 10-year Docusign veteran who most recently served as the company’s chief policy officer.

Perotto declined to comment on Moyle, except to say that there are no current plans to hire for either the chief strategy or chief policy officer roles.

All of this comes as Docusign continues to search for a new CEO to succeed Keith Krach, who last fall signaled his intentions to transition into an executive chairman role.

That new leader presumably would be charged with helping to take Docusign public. The Seattle-based company has raised over $500 million in venture capital funding, most recently at around a $3 billion valuation.
