Man seriously hurt in Edinburgh hit and run

A 20-year-old man has been seriously hurt after being struck by a car in an apparent hit-and-run incident.

Police officers said the collision took place at about 02:10 on Sunday in the centre of Edinburgh.

The driver failed to stop after the incident in St Mary's Street.

His vehicle is described as a silver mid-sized car and the driver is described as a white man in his 20s and with short blonde hair.

St Mary's Street is expected to be closed to traffic until mid-morning on Sunday.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them directly, or through Crimestoppers.
