For years, the soundtrack to Blade Runner held legendary status among fans of Greek synthesist Vangelis. Except for a few cuts on the Themes compilation, it had never been released on vinyl or CD, although there was an orchestral version of the score. But in 1994, 22 years after Vangelis composed the dark, edgy soundtrack to director Ridley Scott's archetypal science fiction thriller, the music of Blade Runner came out in all its cybernoir glory.

Vangelis couched his electrosymphonic score in percussive rhythms and shadowed timbres. Effectively interpolating dialogue from the film, the CD moves from the threatening tension of "Blush Response" to the ethereal wordless vocal of Mary Hopkin over a water-drop synthesizer sequence on "Rachel's Song." A few tracks, notably "Love Theme" with Dick Morrisey's smarmy saxophone solo, drip with Hollywood sentimentality, but Vangelis quickly wipes that away with the hyperdrive of "Blade Runner (End Titles)." --John Diliberto

勿論、監督のリドリースコットも重要なんだけど、資格効果のダグラス・トランブル、ビジュアルフューチャリスとのシド・ミード、そして音楽のヴァンゲリスの存在がなかったら、ここまでファンを引きつける作品にはなっていないと思いますね。サントラを聞くにあたって、やっぱりヴァンゲリスの音楽は素晴らしいとしか言いようがありません。繰り返し再生しながら何回聞いても痺れますねぇ…。このテーマソングは「サバンナRX-7」のCMにも使われていましたが、MAZDAのセンスにも驚かされたものでした。

このご時世！なんとか到着しました。到着予定日より二十日ぐらい経過していました。新品で安いインポートCDを購入するのは気長に待つぐらいが良いかと思います。CDは、長旅をして来たわりには無傷です。内容は、マニア向けコレクターアイテムですね。
さて自分も過去に時間旅行をさせていただきます。
納品遅れを考慮して星4つです。

SACD版はなんだかやけに高いですね。SACDプレイヤーをお持ちなら一度聴いてみると
世界観がすごいです。随分前に2000円くらいで購入しましたが、通常CDと違い、リッピング
出来ないので、中古で売れません。

何度聴いてもいいなあ。

When it comes to movie soundtracks none is more complimentary to a movie than Vangelis's soundtrack to Blade Runner.The soundtrack ads to the ambience of the film and the atmosphere and the movie can't seem to exist without it.If your like me and the first time you saw Blade Runner you instantly hated it and grew to love it with each passing year you saw it over again than you must know also that the more you get to love the movie and appreciate it the more you get to love the amazing soundtrack that goes with it.In fact i would say here that most people including me probably liked the soundtrack before they actually liked the movie.Honestly the first time i saw the movie and hated it i don't remember not liking the soundtrack.I believe i appreciated it right away even if i disliked the movie.I just found the slow pace and depressing methaphoric movie a lot to stomach after i was expecting the same type of instantly accessible joyfull adventures like Harrison Ford's past blockbusters 'Star Wars' and 'Indiana Jones'.Once my dissapointment settled in and that i watched the movie multiple times i really understood what Ridley Scott was going for in telling his tale.And i was wowed over and over by how stunning and a head of its time the soundtrack by Vangelis was.To be honest i have never heard such a soundtrack again made for a movie.It is truely unique and a masterpiece.The one i am reviewing is the single disc version not the 3 disc trilogy set that contains extra pieces never heard before that Vangelis made for the movie.But no matter if your only getting this single disc version what matters is that this is most of the pieces of music that were in the movie and they sound amazing in full uncut format.I read somewhere that the official Vangelis soundtrack of Blade Runner took years to actually get release.Before that people had to settle on random composers doing theyre best to replicate the score and sell it like that.I listened to the 3 disc version before of the soundtrack and to be honest the extra discs has a lot of stuff that isn't in the movie and some pieces that arent all that great to listen to.I find this 1 disc version pretty good enough and might be the best bet for most Blade Runner movie fans.This soundtrack is different than most soundtracks because a lot of tracks are string together to create an experience and some have some dialogue from the movie at the beggining of a track.I would have prefered no dialogue at all but rest assured it is well chosen and well used.I'm guessing it was an artistic choice by Vangelis since he is an artist for sure and everything he does is not like most artists out there.So anyways if your a movie soundtrack collector you definately need this soundtrack in your cd collection its one of the finest out there and an amazing experience to listen to.Brings back memories from watching the movie.

This is without a doubt one of THE very best movie soundtrack albums ever released. This release is based around Ridley Scott's director's cut of the movie.

This proves that the use of synthesisers on a movie soundtrack - once ridiculed for such use - can be just as stunning as a full-size orchestra if done properly....& that is certainly the case here.

For me personally, the love theme is the album's highlight, but the main & end titles tracks are every bit as good along with Memories Of Green.

Definitely recommended
