Peter Tatchell on civil partnerships and marriage laws

The change in the law to allow same-sex marriages in England and Wales has left discrimination against heterosexual couples, says Peter Tatchell.

The human rights campaigner wants to extend civil partnerships to everyone, which was one of the options proposed in a government consultation that has recently closed on this issue.

In a personal film for Wednesday's Daily Politics, Mr Tatchell said some couples do not like the "sexist, homophobic history of marriage", and the option of a civil partnership for all would be "simply a matter of equality".

He will debate this film, which compares UK and Dutch laws, with Conservative Alan Duncan and Labour's Jim Murphy live on BBC2 around 12:40 BST, and the whole programme will be on iPlayer for seven days.
