Ford recalls 205,000 Edge, MKX SUVs for fuel tank issue

Ford Motor Co. on Wednesday issued a recall for 204,447 2007-08 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX SUVs vehicles for rust under the reinforcement brackets where the fuel tank is mounted.

The Dearborn automaker said the condition could cause a fuel odor, leak or potential check engine light, and could lead to a fire. Ford said it’s aware of one fire related to the condition, but no injuries or accidents have been reported.

The SUVs are being recalled in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C. Also covered are the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

The affected vehicles include 2007-08 model year Edge and MKX vehicles built at Ford’s Oakville Assembly Plant in Ontario from June 15, 2006 to Sept. 22, 2008.

Dealers will inspect the fuel tanks and repair or replace them at no cost to owners.
