Staying north of the border and Ross County have added to their defensive options with the signings of Richard Foster and Chris Robertson.

Former Aberdeen full-back Foster, 29, was recently released by Rangers, while Robertson, 28, arrives from Port Vale.

Both men have agreed two-year deals with the Scottish Premiership club.

Defender Louis Laing has signed a two-year deal with Motherwell, following a loan spell at Fir Park.

The 22-year-old centre-back, who was released by Nottingham Forest, said: "After such an enjoyable last six months of last season, I couldn't be happier.

Bale has been unfairly criticised by fans and media in his second season and used as a "whipping boy", says Keegan.

Newly-promoted League Two side Bristol Rovers have re-signed midfielder Chris Lines from League One club Port Vale for an undisclosed fee.

Lines made 31 appearances for the Valiants last season, but he was loaned out to Darrell Clarke's side in March.

The 29-year-old played in 190 games for the Pirates after graduating from the club's academy and said: "Everyone knows I have always been a Bristol Rovers supporter."

Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta will endeavour to put the name of Unicef or another humanitarian cause on the club shirt if he were to win July's election.

Laporta negotiated the initial deal with Unicef almost 10 years ago that saw a logo put on the shirt for the first time in the club's history, during his previous period as president from 2003 to 2010.

"I will do my best to get a sponsor that makes it possible so that we have Unicef again on our shirt or another motif that carries a similar meaning," said the 53-year-old, who faces opposition from current president Josep Maria Bartomeu in the elections on 18 July.

[On missing two drugs tests] "I was in Teddington, I was staying in one of the Kenyans' houses, I was staying on the top floor and I didn't hear the buzzer, I am not going to lie about it.

"A lot of athletes have missed tests. I have taken 148 tests since 2008, 103 since the Olympics, every single one has been negative.

"The last one I missed was 18 months before the Olympics, the other one was February 2010. It's not fair, why me?"

There is no suggestion that Farah has been involved in any doping.

Farah: "I am one of the top athletes in the world and I put my body through hell and run 120 miles week in, week out, I am a double Olympic champion and double world champion. What does that prove? That I am a drugs cheat?"

Farah, who won 5,000m and 10,000m gold at the 2012 London Olympics, says he will leave coach Alberto Salazar if the doping allegations are proven to be true.

Mo Farah has given an interview to Sky Sports News, addressing claims made in a BBC documentary about alleged doping techniques practised by Alberto Salazar.

Farah began by saying he had never taken any banned substances.

"I was shocked about the allegations," he said. "I wanted answers so I spoke to Alberto and he gave me those answers.

"He told me they were just allegations and that he could prove that to me. People need to know that.

"He said he would come out and prove these are just allegations and that is why it has taken me so long [to speak] because I wanted him to come out - because these allegations are about him, not me."

The International Olympic Committee has asked Tokyo organizers to finalise plans for the main stadium for the 2020 Games after it was confirmed that building costs had almost doubled.

Toshiaki Endo, the newly appointed minister in charge of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, said IOC President Thomas Bach told them to finalize the plan before an IOC meeting in late July.

The Japanese government expects the overall costs of building the new National Stadium - also the showpiece venue for the 2019 Rugby World Cup - to soar to $2 billion, up from the original estimate of $1.3 billion.

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc is "yet to be convinced" Kookaburra's pink ball is ready for day-night Test cricket.

The first ever day-night floodlit Test will take place between Australia and New Zealand in Adelaide in November but Starc, who used a pink ball at the Adelaide Oval during a Sheffield Shield trial, said: "It doesn't react anything like the red ball, in terms of swing and the hardness of it.

Peterborough United defender Michael Smith says his side must win promotion out of League One for next season to be deemed a success.

Posh finished ninth last season under caretaker manager Dave Robertson, following the exit of Darren Ferguson.

Robertson has since taken full-time charge, and has signed Joe Gormley and Jack Collison for the new season.

"Hampshire lost the wicket of Jimmy Adams to the last ball of the morning and went in to lunch still 110 runs behind in their second innings.

"Middlesex were all out just under an hour into the third day with Ollie Rayner, who hit his first half century of the season, the last to go for 52.

"The pitch appears to be playing well, but if Hampshire could scrape together a reasonable lead, then spin is expected to play a big part on the final day."

Warwickshire have bounced back strongly with the bat on the third morning at Edgbaston thanks to Jonathan Trott's half-century and nightwatchman Chris Wright's unbeaten 46.

Former England man Trott is currently on 68 not out as the hosts try and make a dent in Sussex's mammoth first-innings score of 601-6.

However, Trott and the rest of Warwickshire's batting line-up know they have plenty more work to do if they are to get anything out of the game.

"Yorkshire's domination has continued in this game. Durham were whipped out for 208 and with a deficit of 349 they were following on before lunch.

"Tim Bresnan struck first with two wickets in two balls including Scott Borthwick for a half century.

"As Durham tried to regroup, Jack Brooks came to the party with two wickets in an over and spinner Adil Rashid then accounted for Graham Onions as five wickets went down for 68 runs.

"Ryan Pringle batted well for the home side and was 69 not out at the end of a difficult innings for Durham."

Northants only managed to add 50 for the loss of their last four wickets, but are still in a strong position against Division Two leaders Lancashire at Old Trafford.

Adam Rossington was lbw to Kyle Jarvis for 89, but James Faulkner was the pick of the home attack, taking 4-63.

Lancashire lost Paul Horton before lunch, bowled by Olly Stone for nought, and they need to score 289 to avoid the possibility of following on.

Opener Richard Oliver fell one run short of his third first-class century, but Worcestershire look set for a first-innings lead against Notts at Trent Bridge.

Oliver was out as he tentatively edged Samit Patel behind, but the visitors have only lost one wicket in the morning session and now trail by just 44 runs.

Notts are also without Luke Fletcher who has a hamstring strain and are facing a long afternoon in the field.

Sprinter Adam Gemili hopes to be running before the end of the season.

The sprinter ran 9.97 seconds in Birmingham in June to become the first Briton to go under both 10 seconds in the 100m and 20 seconds in the 200m but then fell to the ground with a suspected torn hamstring,

"I'm not trying to rush things, but if I can get back on the track before the end of the season that is great," the 21-year-old said.

"We have to look at the bigger picture, with the Rio Olympics obviously the main priority."

The Heat Rule allows a 10 minute break to be taken between the second and third set when the heat stress index is at or above 30.1 degrees Celsius, only applies to ladies' and girls' singles matches that have not yet been called to court.

Laura Robson, playing only her second match since returning after 17 months out with a wrist injury, faces world number 101 Rodina at Wimbledon today.

Dundee United have rejected an offer in the region of £900,000 from Celtic for striker Nadir Ciftci.

It is though a bid in excess of £1m will be need to secure the Turkish-born forward, who scored 16 goals last season and is going into the final year of his contract.

Celtic may face competition from Middlesbrough, who are weighing up an approach for the 23-year-old.

Bradford City have signed striker Steven Davies on a one-year deal.

Manchester United have changed the venue for one of their pre-season games in the United States.

Northampton Saints have signed former Bristol centre Luke Eves on a short-term deal as cover for the World Cup.

The 26-year-old ended his second spell with Bristol in May after they lost the Championship final against Worcester.

The BBC Panorama programme "Catch Me If You Can" claimed US coach Salazar violated various anti-doping rules and used testosterone medication on Galen Rupp in 2002 when he was 16.

British Olympic chiefs will campaign to bring back a GB team after England's historic success in reaching the Women's World Cup semi-finals.

Plans for men's and women's sides at the 2016 Games were halted by protests from the Irish, Scottish and Welsh FAs and British Olympic Association chief Bill Sweeney said he is "disappointed" there will be no GB football sides in Rio.

"It is absolutely our wish to have a football team competing for Team GB in 2020 [in Tokyo]," said Sweeney.

"We will therefore do everything possible to make this happen."
