I was looking for a "greatest hits" when I ran across this... We have these on vinyl but I wanted something a bit more portable. LOL
Sure, it doesn't have the "Edsel" extras...but that's not what I was looking for. B-sides, outtakes, and whatever are cool...but I wanted the albums I already have but either haven't heard for a while or simply wanted to take with me on my iPhone.
Yes, Into The Gap has a couple songs in the "wrong" order, but that's such a simple fix it's not worth worrying over.
Are a couple songs US vs UK length..? Sure, maybe...IDK...and I don't care. A couple seconds here or there on a song is probably not life changing, The point is, this is a collection of their "best" albums at a GREAT price.
If you want extras and bonus tracks and stuff that never made it onto an album for whatever reason...this may not be for you. OTOH, if you want their best selling albums from the 80s...go for it.

I liked this box set. I knew the hits of course but wanted to know more about the band pre hits and post hits. I wasn't disappointed. If you like early 1980's electronic music you'll love this and even the lesser known material. Thumbs up for the Thompson Twins! Down side is that the back covers are facsimile of the original albums which is good for historical reference but you'd need a microscope to read the track listings!

Tras su excelente LP de debut, "A Product Of... Participation" (1981), los siguientes álbumes de Thompson Twins (1977-1993) se publicaron en el sello Arista.

El primero de ellos, "Set" (1982) destacó gracias al éxito de su single "In the name of love". Pasaron a ser de un grupo de siete miembros a trío con el siguiente álbum "Quick Step & Side Quick" (1983), del que se extrajeron singles de éxito en cascada ("Lies", "Love on your side", "We are detective" y "Watching").

Pero es en 1984 cuando el éxito global de Thompson Twins se dispara con el LP "Into The Gap", con mega-éxitos como "Doctor! Doctor!", "You take me up", "Sister of mercy" o "The gap". Aunque fue "Hold me now" el single que destacó sobre todos los demás.

Tras su triunfal reaparición en el mega-evento solidario "Live Aid" de 1985 publican "Here's To Future Days" con sencillos de éxito como "Lay your hands on me", "Don't mess with Doctor Dream", "King for a day" o el excelente cover del "Revolution" de Los Beatles.

Reducidos a dúo en 1987, lanzan "Close To The Bone", su último disco para Arista, y con excelentes singles como "Get that love" o "Long goodbye" que, sin embargo, no les depara el éxito que merecían.

Todos estos discos imprescindibles de los años ochenta están contenidos en esta excelente caja de "Original Album Classics".

Totalmente recomendable.

Wie wohl die meisten - wenn überhaupt - kannte ich von den T.T. nur die beiden Hits "Hold me now" und "Doctor Doctor". Mit dem Erwerb sollte somit nur meine Achtziger-Synthiepop-Sammlung um eine unverzichtbare Band dieser Ära erweitert werden. Inzwischen höre ich aber alle fünf Alben oft & richtig gern. In chronologischer Reihenfolge kann man hier den musikalischen Werdegang dieser Band verfolgen. Zunächst um 1982 noch etwas flott-punkig daherkommend, mit Anleihen von Police u. Roxy Music geht die Entwicklung - zum Glück - zunehmend in Richtung New Wave/New Romantic mit seinen traumhaft schönen, melancholisch-romantischen, verspielt-sehnsuchtsvollen Synthie-Linien, die zum Träumen&in sich selbst Versinken verführen. Am ehesten zu ihren besten Zeiten mit Talk Talk und evtl. Human League vergleichbar. Leider hatten sie mit dem 84` Album ihren kreativen Höhepunkt dann aber auch schon überschritten; ohne daß die Nachfolger deswegen übel sind, kommen sie über Mittelmaß nicht mehr hinaus. Die Sound-Qualität aller Scheiben ist erstaunlich gut; mit Sicherheit nicht von LP gezogen. Auch nervige 12"Mixes oder diverse "Extended-Versions" gibt es nicht, sondern nur die reinen Original-Titel; in leicht abgeänderter Reihenfolge. Jede einzelne CD im Schober ist noch einmal im Original-Cover extra verpackt. Freunde dieses Musikstils und Nostalgiker können also bedenkenlos zugreifen. Mein Wort drauf!
