　このアルバムは、売れなかったということを知り、いったいどんなアルバムなのか俄然興味をもち、購入しました。どうしてどうして、やはりビージーズです。当時はきっと多くの人がディスコ音楽を期待し、その期待とは違うタイプのアルバムだったのでしょう。わたしはSize Isn't EverythingやＳｔｉｌｌ　Ｗａｔｅｒｓがとても好きなので、そんな雰囲気のこのアルバムをとても気に入りました。どの曲も聴くほどに好きになります。4 Don't Fall in Love with Me, 6 I still Love You, 9 Crying Every Dayなどで、ロビン特有の歌い方もたくさん聴けます（歌詞が聞き取りにくいんですよね！）。　モーリスのナチュラルなやさしい声が聴ける7 Wild Flowerも大好きです。5 Soldiers, 8 Nothing Could Be Good もいいですね。どの曲も良く、飛ばしたくなる曲は全然ないです。ただ、タイトル曲のＬｉｖｉｎｇ　Eyesは、私の場合、心がざわざわと憂鬱な気持ちになります。決して嫌いじゃあないんです。好きなのですが、この曲が１曲目でなかったら、売れ行きはまた違っていたかな、と感じました。ジャケットも琥珀色したニューヨーク（？）の、秋の夕暮れがいい雰囲気です。

そーなんです！！あの名作にしてＢｅｅＧｅｅｓのアルバムの中で最もお金がかかったのに最も『売れなかった』ファンの人でも買った事、聴いた事無い人が多い、幻のアルバム『リビングアイズ』の事です。メンバー、モーリスの追悼・クリスマス企画ということで再発売になった全アルバムの中でも、これはホンと絶対の『買い』です。何といっても超おすすめは（ヒーズアライア）と（ソルジャー・・・同時期に最後のオリジナルアルバムを発売した”ABBA”のヴィジターズにも同名異曲同雰囲気があるのも気になる！！）、（ワイルドフラワー。。亡くなったモーリスによる珍しいリードボーカル曲）（クライングエヴリデイ）そして最後の（ビーフーユーアー）・・・これは涙もん！彼らの名曲の中でも（Ｔｈｅ　Ｂest）と言い切れる曲です！。。。このころのマイケルJ同様、世紀末的サウンド作りの天才と言いたい！そしてこのサウンド作りの共通点の結晶としてダイアナ　ロスの『Eaten　Alive』の共作発売（BeeGeesのバリー・マイケル　J・ダイアナ　ロスによるヴォーカルアレンジ・コーラスモーション）へとつながって行ったのも頷ける。ディオンヌ　ワーウィックの『ハートブレーカー』・・・野口五郎の”19時の街"はこの曲が元曲らしい、ん！やっぱり！・・もBeeGeesのバリーによるプロデュースで特に日本国内では大変な人気（ちなみに俺も大好き！！）だったけど、ここに挙げたすべてのアーチスト、アルバム共に共通点がらみで、すべてにおいて『買い！！』です。だって、アレンジャー・プロデューサー・ギターリストなんかで購入を結構みんな決めてるでしょ？ならば聴くべし！酔うべし！買うべし！いつも、屈託のない笑顔のモーリスと彼を愛したすべての人たちへ。

売れ行きの悪さと比例して、各楽曲が、かなり、地味で、ヒット性にかけるのが、残念。ただ、ラスト曲の、ビーフーユーアー、は、大作、オデッサ、を想わせる作風で、オールドファンには、最高。

彼らの初期からのファンとディスコ時代に初めてファンになった人たち双方から中途半端という印象を持たれたのかもしれません。81年リリースのアルバムですが、彼らのアルバムの中でも数少ないヒットしなかったアルバムになります。
彼らのアルバムには捨てがたい魅力をもった曲が必ず入っていて素晴らしいのですが、改めてこのアルバムを聴くと「Don't Fall In Love With Me」、「I Still Love You」、「Wildflower」、「Nothing Could Be Good」などほんとに美しいメロディで他のアルバムよりも魅力的な曲が多いぐらいだと感じます。
ただ一方ディスコの遺産を引きずったような曲もあって出来不出来が激しいかもしれません。しかし一般的なアーティストのアルバムだったら十分合格レベルのアルバムで彼らもよほどがっかりしたのでしょう。次のアルバム"E.S.P."は6年後のリリースになってしまっています。

ドラムスにスティーヴ・ガット、と聞けば、どんなにお金のかかったアルバムかわかっていただけるかと思いますが、そのわりに評価の低いことで知られています。たしか当時ビージーズはマネージャーのロバート・スティックウッドと係争中で、アルバムを出せるような状況にはなかったはずです。加えていわゆる「フィーバー」が一段落したところで、リキみすぎたってことも多少あるのではないでしょうか。この直前にはバーブラ・ストライザンドの「ギルティ」などもあり、プレッシャーもそうとうあったかと思います。ヒットまちがいなし！って曲は正直すくないですが、どれもツブぞろいの佳曲です。ただ、ビージーズといってまっさきにというアルバムではありません。ところで、「ギルティ」と同時期にロビンがジミー・ラッフィンのアルバムを一枚プロデュースしていることはあまり知られていませんが、「ハウ・オールド・アー・ユー」がお好きな方はぜひ見つけて一聴を。

うーん、残りカスかなあ？

ビージーズの低迷期の始まりとなったアルバム。今聴いてみるとやっぱり低迷すべくして低迷したんだと思います。内容はそれまでのディスコ調を捨ててAORっぽいサウンドに仕上がっています。耳あたりはいいですが、印象に残る曲が全く無いです。

バリー・ギブが同時期にプロデュースしたバーブラ・ストライサンドの「ギルティ」は素晴らしいアルバムだったのですが、間違っても同じレベルの作品を期待しては行けません。言い方は悪いが「ギルティ」の残りカスのようなアルバムです。

Un grand merci... ce cd est rare, introuvable en FRANCE, et sans problème sur Amazon, je vous tire mon chapeau, j'ai enfin le cd,d'un groupe que j'affectionne particulièrement.
Pour les fans, je pense que celui ci vous comblera de bonheur et vous l'écouterez en boucle, surtout la dernière chanson, "Be who you are ", une chanson criante de vérité et qui parle à chacun d'entre nous.
La musique est excellente, la qualité du cd est très bonne, bref, que du bonheur...

Some of the biggest flops in terms of albums turn out to be some of the best, and certainly no less in this instance. I think I'm correct in stating that this was the only album from The Bee Gees not to succeed in gathering enough sales in any one week for it to chart. I agree entirely with the last reviewer, who also wonders how this slipped by almost 'un-noticed' by the public. One reason might be that at the time, The Bee Gees had started concentrating more on writing songs for other major artistes such as Barbra Streisand and Dionne Warwick, thus taking attention away from their own performances. It is also worth noting that this was after the 'Saturday Night Fever' period, but long before their resurgence in 1987.

I remember hearing the single 'Living Eyes' for the first time on the radio - not a thing often experienced with singles that did not make the chart back in 1981, and I liked it immediately and went out and bought it. Consequently, it did not leave my turntable and was played over and over again for days! It had both the power of 'Tragedy' and the beauty of 'Spirits Having Flown' combined.

This CD has always been extremely hard to find, and for a long time was only ever available as an import - fetching up to £100 in some cases! Now, thanks to Amazon - even though it still costs a bit more than your average-priced CD we have an opportunity to own it for a limited period. Snap it up, as it will not be around forever! The vinyl is equally as scarce, as the many copies that are around, collectors are reluctant to part with them. There is a bonus with the LP; it includes possibly the most handsome photo of Maurice Gibb on the super inner gatefold - the most attractive of all The Bee Gees in my opinion.

All this aside, the songs are great, and the album is a true classic, and probably their best work ever!

Trivia: Did you know that the same week this album came no-where in the album chart, ABBA were topping it with 'The Visitors', who, like The Bee Gees, had also placed a song called 'Soldiers' as their last track on side one! It was not the same song.

If...you are/were a Bee Gee fan and have never heard this and liked their 'non-disco' sound you'll love this. They wrote it after the disco stuff and while they were still as strong vocally as in the album Main Course (Fanny, Jive Talkin, Nights on Broadway). Their harmonies are rock solid, Barry was not lisping yet...and everyone got a stage. Well worth a nostalgic spin.

My sister became a Bee Gees fan in the late 70's. She totally fell in love with "Spirits having flown" LP and then worked backwards to the 60's stuff. She played the stereo non-stop Bee Gees. I grew to love them as well. Then came the 80's, classic rock and punk were taking over by storm, much like grudge and alternative rock took over in the 90's. Bee Gees were seen as disco only and were shunned, Like Sinead O'Conner opening for a Bob Dylan tribute.

About a year later, I'm watching MTV (yes mtv!) after school and then comes on the "Living Eyes" video. I tell my sister about but it is VERY short lived. She buys the new LP (record) and plays it a lot.

It falls quickly and goes out of print etc. Then in college in the mid nineties, find the CD from Japan on CD Now. I buy it for her. I visit her and we both listen to it(her LP had become very scratched and sounded bad). The CD BLOWS me away! I read the CD notes and find out Jeff Poccaro (drums-Toto) Russ Kunkel (drums Gary Wright) and lots of other musicians from other acts (James Taylor, Carly Simon,Carole King etc bands) are playing on the CD.

Yes, this CD is different from "normal" BGs and yet it totally BGs! Is like when "America" did 'You can do magic' Is a new band with new sound. The recording and mixing is great. Is like 'Bee Gees meets Little River Band' but with all the songwriting and vocal talents from the "I've just gotta get a message" and "To love somebody" days.

My sister made me a cassette copy which I play all the time! It has timeless songs in the same vein like "Love so right" and "For Whom the bell tolls" it's just that good! So much so that I recently ordered my own CD, I've got to have it. But I ordered it from Amazon BG listing #132. (I got my sister's from Polydor/Japan) and the later reprints seem to have no name or generic name for label name. This CD has gone out out print for a long time even an import. I like Rock and Old Genesis and Dave Matthews, AC-DC and Many others as well. But if I was alone on an island, "Living Eyes" would be one of my 'keeper' CDs.

I think back then, BGs were trying something different to get more radio play and cast off the disco and really worked hard to put out a good product in the 80's and move on. But in that time, people thought of them like Vanilla Ice opening for MC Hammer. BUT in this case, it sounded good then, but is awesome now! hope this helps!
