A 17-year-old boy pulled from the sea after getting into difficulty in a dinghy has died.

Liam Hall, of Southwick, was in the water at the mouth of the River Wear, Sunderland, at about 15:20 BST on Tuesday when a rescue was launched.

He was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary but died from his injuries, police said.

Three other teenagers rescued from a dinghy remain in a stable condition in hospital.
